Do You Need a Flasher Relay or Load Resistor with You Kawasaki Taillight?
Most of today's sportbikes include standard incandescent bulbs for their turn signals. As you know, these bulbs can and will burn out over time. To alert the rider of a blown out bulb, the bike's OEM relay will force the signaling circuit to flash quickly. This can become a problem when you want to switch to LED turn signals, which can be found in our Blaster-X Integrated LED taillights, our pod signal kits, and or any of our front flushmount signals.
The reason LEDs cause hyperflash to occur is that they draw very little electrical current once they are turned on. In fact, it's so close to zero that a bike's OEM relay cannot distinguish between a working LED light and a blown-out incandescent bulb, so it sends it into alert mode.
There are two ways you can solve this issue. The first way is to increase the amount of current seen by the OEM relay by installing our load balancing resistors. The second option is to replace your OEM relay with one of our Blaster-X flasher relays. The reason load balancing resistors work is that, when paired with an LED light, they will draw the same amount of current as an LED bulb. The relay works by replacing your OEM unit with one of our Blaster-X flasher relays that will work regardless of whether or not it's an incandescent bulb or an LED light.
Please note that resistors are included with most of our LED Kawasaki taillights and many of our other LED products, even if you add a relay to your order. If you add a relay to your order, don't worry about installing the resistors. There is no need.
