CBR Tail Light

As most of the bikers, you will probably jump on your motorcycle and drive, without asking what those red lights behind your vehicle are. All you know is, that whenever you have to upgrade your CBR Tail Light, you will find it on CustomLED shop.

The purpose of tail lights

The headlights and tail lights are making you visible to other drivers after the sunset. Even in the daylight, if the visibility is low due to rain, snow, or dense fog, we advise you to turn your lights on.

Both lights are essential in avoiding accidents and are switched on from the same push-button. Since they are part of the safety features of your vehicle, you should check them regularly, especially when you are planning a long trip outside the city.

The tail light is usually red since this color is associated with danger and is visible from a safe distance. Another driver approaching your vehicle will notice the lights and will slow down to a safer speed limit.

Are red LED lights illegal?

In most of the states, it is legal to use a LED CBR tail light, if the color is red or amber and the light is visible from at least 1,000 feet away. However, you should not install a red light in front of the vehicle unless you are driving a police, a fire department, or an ambulance vehicle.

You also have to be aware that the lights installed on your motorcycle are more visible if they are flashing. Typically, only emergency vehicles feature flashing lights. Certain brake light modulations are allowed by the DOT for motorcycles.

What would cause tail lights not to work?

There are several causes why a tail light will not work from a burned out light bulb or fuse, to a complex malfunctioning of the electrical LED component. The common reasons why your rear lights are not working can include:

  • Blown fuse – multiple devices connected on the same electrical circuit can cause your fuse to overload and burn. In case you added any electrical equipment like a radio or extra lights, you have to check if they are not all connected to the same place.
  • Faulty relay – the electrical current goes from the battery to the lamps through a main switch relay. A burnt coil or blocked contacts will stop the relay to power up the lamp and other circuits.
  • Faulty light switch – if the brake light is on, but the tail light is not switching you should check the main light switch. In some cases, your switch will turn on the headlights, but an internal fault will prevent to do the same with your backlights.
  • Burned lamp – it is easy to detect this kind of fault with a regular bulb, by visually checking if the filament is still in place.

Usually, the incandescent bulbs will have a relatively short lifetime, requiring regular replacement. An alternative option is the LED CBR tail light provided by CustomLED. The expected lifetime of an LED is 50,000 hours, meaning that you may need to replace them only when you want to install our newest model.
